Our History

The name ‘Changzamtog’: Its’ Origin

Changzamtog was initially known as Changzamdoe. That was because there was a bridge facing the area. However, with the passage of time the pronunciation changed to Changzamtog as it is still known today. 

Changzamtog Middle secondary School was established in the year 1978 as a Primary school (PP-VI grade). It catered mostly the children of the Changzamtog community and the Royal Bhutan Police. In 1998 school was upgraded to Lower Secondary School (PP-VIII grade) and served as a feeder school for Zilnon Namgyeling School (BBP) and Changbangdu Primary School (now shifted to Jugeina as Jugeina Pry School). However, due to increasing number of student enrollment every year, the construction of 18 classrooms funded by World Bank Project completed in February 2012. And in 2018, it was upgraded to Middle Secondary School and classes range from    Pre-Primary (PP) to grade ten. The school has one the highest numbers of children in the capital. The school has basic infrastructural facilities such as, staffroom, basket ball court, volley court, basket ball court, library, store room, IT room and laboratory, conference hall and administrative office. 

Background History of the school.

The land where the school is constructed today was owned by different owners. It is said that the land was in the form of paddy field / wet land. The owners who gave their land were Ex. Chang Gup Ugyen Tshering , Tandin Nya, Dasho Yeshi, Aum Wangmo, Ap Tachub and party it was also owned by Dratshang. It is said that those owners whose land were taken the construction of the school were given only 400 Rs for 25 decimal as compensation by the government.

Establishment of school

Changzamtog Middle secondary School was established in the year 1978 as a Primary school (PP-VI grade).The school had five teachers and about a one hundred students. The first head of school was Mr S.L. Rai from Darjeeling, India. The school building consisted of just two one-storied structures which housed the head teacher’s office as well as the classrooms and toilets.
